YEAH YOU KNOW THIS IS WHY YOU READ MY JOURNAL

Adam Lambert on Velvet Goldmine (from here):

I don’t know how I found Velvet Goldmine, but once I saw it, I was obsessed with it. I thought it was a genius movie, both in plot and also, visually and musically. In all elements it was just really cool.

27-year-old glam kids repreZENT. It makes me so happy he loves this movie. It had a really profound impact on me in so many ways when I saw it as a teen, and is one of the big generational touch-stones for me that hasn't yet been covered by Lyn-Z, Pete Wentz, and all the other band people whose formative interests partially align with my own.

Adam's dad about what Adam thought of Star Trek (from here):

Adam (like his Mom) was not really into it. Except he always dug the cool alien make-up.

... OF COURSE HE DID.

Weird, true. A lot of the reason I'm so *thump thump v-sign* about Wentz for example is that I discovered lots of things that meant something to him, that also meant something to me. Music or books or whatever.

Velvet Goldmine changed my life when I saw it, probably more than any other film, but I can't say anyone I love in that way has ever cared about it.

I'm exactly the same on point one, and prior to being indoctrinated to the Church of Glambert I was on point two as well. It was this huge, HUGE deal for me, and the only bandom connection to it is that Placebo are IN it, ahahaha.

Yeah - I saw it because I was a Placebo fan but it utterly turned my world inside out - not because of the queer, I was already down with that, it was more the Curt/Arthur relationship, Curt Wilde is an incredibly huge character for me, and, oh, oh, just, that movie.

Dude, you know that someone in bandom somewhere has a secret love for it. I mean. Come on. Think about the circles they run in. Somewhere, Amanda Palmer and Frances Bean Cobain and Neil and Maddy Gaiman (she's probably old enough) and G and LynZ and Jimmy and Chantal have all had a slumber party and watched glittery boys make out. IT HAS HAPPENED.

So has anyone written the story where Adam basically forces Kris to watch VG? And Kris gets notably excited by a few key scenes? Because that would be awesome.

(That's one of my favorite movies from a "music obsession" standpoint. The music used in the movies, the fact that actual quotes from real glitter stars are slyly added in. I just adore it. God.)

WARNING: HUG TIMES
Fri, Jul. 10th, 2009 02:24 pm (UTC)

There was a very memorable night in my youngadulthood where a friend and I had the house to ourselves and did, in fact, watch the film at maximum volume; we also danced like idiots to pretty much every musical number.

Anyway, the point is, I suspect Kris' reaction would be something like that. WIth the arm-windmilling.

The entire movie is pretty much glorious, actually.

Think "slasher's paradise come to life, starring Ewan McGregor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Christian Bale and cameo-ing Brian Molko" and sit down for an hour and a half of awesome.

Ah yes, Velvet Goldmine ....

So, a few years back, Christina and Camilla (two long time customers at Ralph's store with whom we've be come friends of the family) were gushing about Ewan McGregor, known in their family as "the pretty man".

So, I asked what they thought of Velvet Goldmine and Pillow Book. They hadn't seen it. I brought them over and told them, they'd get to see Ewan in "all his glory".

So, the next time I'm over at their house, Mama comes running up to me "Gracias! Gracias!" and bursts into more Spanish than I know as she hugs me.

She loved the movies. In fact all the women at the house (and a few other lady friends) loved the movies. It ws the best movie night, ever.

I watched Velvet Goldmine this spring-- in a tiny bed with my best friend laying on my chest and making awesome commentary as we went. So I have some pretty good memories of it ♥

Oh man, that pleases me. I'm pretty much the one in my friends group (RL, not online - I met most of my first online friends through Velvet Goldmine fandom, or through linksurfing off VG pages (er, page?) who made people sit down and watch Velvet Goldmine and giggled at their reactions and clapped my hands excitedly when they wanted to watch it again immediately.

So...er. Where was I going with this? Oh right. YAY GLAM KIDZ. YAY EXCESSES OF GLITTER.
